Why is this race so important?

This race is benefitting…
  • Cancer Alliance of Naples provides financial assistance for cancer patients, helping cover things such as rent, car payments, and groceries. This nonprofit also offers free group counseling, free nutrition programs, and college scholarships for graduating seniors who are cancer survivors.
  • Garden of Hope and Courage is a beautiful downtown garden spanning 2.5 acres that allows patients, families, and nursing staff to feel comforted and supported by nature when needed.
  • Gulf Coast Runners awards annual scholarships to high school seniors through their Youth Development Fund and helps out other local nonprofit organizations through their races, runs, and social events.

Tips for runners:

  • Make a training plan!
  • First-timers should work on building mileage slowly, adding a little bit more mileage to one to three runs each week, according to running coach Pete Rea.
  • Remember that any extra time on your feet, even walking, helps you become stronger.
  • Vary your workouts leading up to the race.
  • Find buddies with which to train and run.
  • Don’t forget to train your mind as well as your body.
  • During the race, don’t be afraid to change your pacing.
  • Build backward: run more slowly at the beginning of the race, then increasingly amp up your speed.

Tips for supporters:

  • Have fun with it! Dress up, make a sign, create t-shirts—you name it!
  • If you can’t make the race, you can donate a custom amount here
